Communities In Schools

In early 2010, Communities in Schools introduced the Graduation Station initiative, which has placed a Graduation Coach in all four Cleveland County high schools. The program targets 200 students in 9th - 12th grade, including 60 pregnant or parenting teens, who are at risk for school drop-out.

The Coach works to ensure the smooth transition of middle school youth to high school and post secondary education or work. The goal is to improve the drop-out rate of 9th grade participants by 15 percent at graduation.

Mrs. Phillips, is the Graduation Coach for Shelby High School, and works with freshman students to connect them with a variety of resources they need to succeed.

Mrs.Phillips does follow-ups with students who need attendance and academic encouragement, along with getting parents involved in their children's education.
