Fine Arts

ART:
Courses offered to cover a wide range from beginners to advanced. Students have the opportunity to experiment with different mediums and a variety of projects with an emphasis given to drawing as a foundation. Students compete for awards annually at the Cleveland County Arts Council student art show.

BAND:
The Shelby High School Band offers students the opportunity to continue their instrumental education that began in 6th grade. Band students attend and perform at all home varsity football games, the homecoming parade, the Shelby Christmas parade, as well as other community events throughout the year. Students can also audition to participate in the color guard, drumline, jazz band, and the All-County/District/State Honor Bands.

CHORUS:
Shelby High School Chorus provides opportunities for both beginning and advanced singers to perform a varied of choral repertoire. Students perform regularly at Christmas and in the spring at concerts, award ceremonies, and graduation exercises. Students may audition for NC Honors Chorus, Mars Hill Choral Clinic, and NC All-State Chorus. Students are given the opportunity to participate in All-County Choral Clinic and various musical theater activities.

Theatre
Drama at Shelby High School is an extremely popular extracurricular activity that many students take part in. The drama program offers many opportunities for those who have an interest in learning about acting, directing, and the backstage technical process. Painting backdrops, building scenery, and serving the community by being a part of the running crew of shows are just some ways in which students can become active in the department. As part of the regular curriculum, courses such as Introduction to Theatre, Directing and Technical Theatre are offered to students.

ORCHESTRA:
The Shelby High Orchestra has a long-standing tradition of excellence. The orchestra 0performs several concerts throughout the year for the community and has worked with several well-known musicians.
